Celeste Baker, DVM
Dr. Baker opened Eastside Animal Medical Center in 2002. Originally from Tucker, Georgia, she obtained her degree in Biology from Presbyterian College and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. She lives in Grayson with her two children, Ella and Bradley, and numerous four-legged friends. Labrador Retrievers Chloe, Tank, and Wrecks are kept in line at home by pint-sized Pita the Dachshund. Keeping the mice at bay are feline friends Cookie, Tomas, and Gus. All of Dr. Baker’s animals have been recruited for various aid at the hospital over the years, either as blood donors or training aids. In her spare time, Dr. Baker enjoys coaching soccer, swimming, trail running, and mountain biking.

Lynda Bacon, DVM
Dr. Bacon has been an associate veterinarian on staff since 2004. Originally from Madison, GA, she attended Berry College and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science before completing her degree in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia. Dr. Bacon lives in Lawrenceville with her husband and their two children along with Daisy, a pit bull/lab mix, Persia, a very particular Pug and their feline friend Callisto. In her free time, Dr. Bacon enjoys hiking, gardening, and reading, and also holds a brown belt in karate. Dr. Bacon enjoys being a part of Eastside for the teamwork!

Saskia Houghton, DVM
Born in Tampa, Florida, Dr. Houghton grew up enjoying year-round flip-flops and sunshine. After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design from Florida State University and working as a designer for a few years, she decided to return to school and seek a degree in veterinary medicine from St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine on Grand Cayman Island. She then completed her clinical year of schooling with the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. Shortly after completing her degree, Dr. Houghton happily joined the Eastside Animal Medical Center team, working in both general practice and emergency medicine. Dr. Houghton has a passion for developing client relationships and enjoys challenging internal medicine and surgery cases. She currently resides in Athens, Georgia, with her husband Rich and her crew of misfits: Ari, Olive, Rocko, Cash, and Clementine. She is an avid knitter and enjoys pet photography in her free time.

Lindsey Verlander, DVM
Dr. Verlander has been an emergency veterinarian at Eastside Animal Medicine Center since 2013. In 2015 she was promoted to Director of Emergency Services. Dr. Verlander grew up in Lawrenceville and attended Brookwood High School. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Wofford College with a double major in Biology and Religion, all while playing intercollegiate soccer and running track! She completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree at the University of Georgia where she was an active member of the Bulldog Leadership Team, Small Animal and Wildlife Treatment Crew, and performed research for which she has been published in 2015 in the Journal of American Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Verlander’s work interests include emergency and critical care, soft tissue surgery, exotic/zoo animal medicine, and research. She resides in Grayson with her adorable husband Matt, perfect dog Levi, demon cat Strauss, and awesome bearded dragon Ridley. In her spare time Dr. Verlander enjoys hiking, backpacking, paddleboarding, knitting, and ultra distance/long distance running. She has completed numerous Ragnar Relay events across the country.

Amanda Steffen, DVM
Dr Steffen earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine and began her career as an emergency veterinarian at Eastside in June 2016. Originally from Orangeburg, South Carolina, she attended USC-Aiken and earned a degree in Biology prior to attending UT. In her spare time, she enjoys activities at Orange Fitness, playing soccer, and hiking. She lives in Decatur with Floyd, a 10 year old Bull Mastiff mix, and Molly, a 15 year old Chow mix.

Kelly Brunick, DVM
Dr. Brunick joined Eastside as an emergency veterinarian in July of 2016 after graduating from St George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Kennesaw State University. Originally from Quantico, VA and numerous military bases all over (she is a military brat), she now resides in Athens, Georgia, with husband Brandon Hughes and their broad menagerie of special four-legged friends. Alice, Peanuckle, Leto, and Ghanima make up the Fearless Feline Foursome who preside over the Canine Crewe made up of Buddy, Weiss Guy, Bruce, and Gustav. In her spare time, Dr. Brunick enjoys knitting, hiking, and dancing.

Veterinary Technicians

Allison Calder, RVT
Allison has been a Registered Veterinary Technician at Eastside Animal Medical Center since 2002. She enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine. You will find her assisting with patient exams, in surgery, or in the treatment area. She lives in Loganville with her husband, two children, and three cats.

Jessica Mitchell, RVT
Jessica started at EAMC in 2006 after graduating from Gwinnett Tech with an Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology. She is a Monroe, GA native and currently resides there with her husband, son, and baby on the way (July 2017). Also demanding her attention at home are her four-legged friends Dixie, a thirteen-year-old B702, MacAvity, a thirteen-year-old Domestic Medium Hair, and Othello, a six-year-old Domestic shorthair. She is currently pulling duties in office management. In her spare time Jessica enjoys baking and travel. She loves the family feel at Eastside.

Charmaine Boone, RVT
Since 2013, Charmaine has been a rock star RVT on the Eastside general practice side. Originally from New York, Charmaine attended Gwinnett Technical College and received her Veterinary Technician degree. She arrived at Eastside for one of her student rotations and we never let her leave! Charmaine lives with her parents and a stuffed owl named Jasmine. Charmaine has a very large shoe collection and loves sleeping outside of work hours. Her favorite thing about working at Eastside is the hilarious staff.

Jessica Wamsley, RVT
Jessica is a newcomer to Eastside, and was welcomed in February 2017 as an RVT on the emergency side. She is an Atlanta native and became a registered tech after receiving her Associate’s degree and passing her Boards in 2007. She lives in Atlanta with son Zachary, dogs Cilia, Bianca, and Ciara, and bearded dragon Smaug. Jessica enjoys working in an environment that caters to advanced medicine and top notch care. She has visited all 50 states and Canada, and in addition to traveling, loves concerts and river activities.

Christina Datil, RVT
Christina is a Georgia native from Jesup. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Georgia Southern University, and obtained her Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology from Gwinnett Technical College. Outside of working at Eastside, Christina enjoys being a mommy, reading, and taking Zumba. Christina and husband Nelson live in Athens with their growing family: children Gabe and Delia, Leche, a ten-year-old Pitbull, and Ellie, an eight-year-old Westie Mix.

Chesna Chavis, RVT
Chesna has been working as an RVT on the emergency side since graduating from Athens Technical College with her Associate’s Degree in Animal Science in May of 2015. She and soon-to-be husband Brandon live in Athens with their four fur babies Digger, Roxy, Pepé, and Elvis. In her spare time, Chesna enjoys reading, painting, hiking, photography, and knitting.

Veterinary Assistants

Alexandra DiTomaso
Alexandra has been a fixture at Eastside since 2008 as a veterinary assistant and general maintenance guru. The Montreal, Quebec native is also a certified AEMT and accomplished equestrienne. She lives in Loganville with Cavaliers Samson and Summer, feline friends Sky and Momma Cat, and horses Neon and Patton. Alex enjoys working at Eastside because of the people she works with.

Ashley Griffin
Ashley has been working at Eastside Animal Medical Center since August 2012. She is currently studying pre-vet at North Georgia College and State University and hopes to transfer to UGA to attend vet school. In her spare time, Ashley loves going to concerts, reading, and playing soccer. She has three Siberian huskies (Koda, Max 1, and Max 2), four cats (Gizmo, Cosmo, Blaze, and Lilly) and a turtle (Crush).

Fran Elliott
Fran has been an integral part of Eastside since 2014, working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the building running smoothly and looking gorgeous. An Atlanta native, Fran loves being close to her family; daughter Whitney, grandsons Jake and Oliver, and granddaughter Charleigh keep her busy outside of work. Fran is owned by 3 miniature dachshunds: Khloe, Cashew, and Sami.  A former law enforcement officer and EMT, Fran brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the family at Eastside.

Shenise Howard
Shenise has been a member of the Eastside family since 2013, initially working summers during high school. After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, she became a full-time assistant at Eastside. Shenise’s goal has always been to attend veterinary school, and she has recently been accepted to a number of programs including the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine! She currently resides in Grayson with her parents, sister, and a wonderfully adorable Yorkie Poo named Buttons. In her free time, Shenise enjoys volleyball, eating, make-up, cruise vacations, and is an amazing spin instructor. She currently holds certifications in RPM/Sprint and Les Mills Instruction.

Abby Byrd
Abby joined Eastside Animal Medical Center in January of 2016 as an emergency assistant. Originally from Chicago, Abby now lives in Duluth with husband Shea, children Chara, Leland, and Madisen. The rest of her crew include a Siberian Husky named Amaya Bella and a feisty chihuahua mix named Charles. Abby transferred to general practice in January of 2017. Outside of work and hanging with family, Abby enjoys watching movies and is a country music fan.

Adriane Hubbard
Adriane has been a veterinary assistant at Eastside since July 2015. She and her husband live with their princess, Tessa, a 5 year old cavapoo. Adriane is from Illinois, and is an Aviation Mechanic.  Outside of work, Adriane is into fitness and weight-lifting. Her favorite thing about working at Eastside is her co-workers.

Alita Sharp
Alita has been an emergency veterinary assistant at EAMC since October 2015. Originally from Warner Robbins, GA, she is currently pursuing her degree in Biology at UNG – Gainesville. She and husband Randy live with children Eden and Liam, beagle Penny Lane, Flat Coated Retriever Trigger, an orange tabby named Crookshanks, a bearded dragon named Rango, and Skye, a neon blue Glo Fish. Alita loves hiking, camping, watching movies, and reading. She loves the teamwork at Eastside.

Stacey Scheffer
Stacey has been employed at EAMC for 2 years as an emergency veterinary assistant. An Atlanta native, Stacey is graduating with her degree in Animal Science summer 2017. She has two Doberman Pinchers, Lex and Aurora, and four cats, Ham, Cheese, Dijon, and little Debbie. She loves the wide variety of cases at Eastside. Outside of work, Stacey enjoys leather crafting, bass guitar, and home repair.


Tonya Hogan
Tonya has been with Eastside Animal Medical Center since the practice opened in 2002, most recently as the receptionist since 2013.  She has an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. Tonya lives in Snellville with her husband, two sons, and four-legged family member Jake, an Australian shepherd. She enjoys watching her sons play lacrosse and ride their mountain bikes on the trails.

Office Staff

June Morrison
June has been an active environmentalist and animal advocate her whole life. She graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor of Science, and is happy to help the medical staff in any way so they can spend their time with your pets. June loves her job, happy clients, purring kitties, and wagging tails!
